Restaurant Review: Awfully Chocolate

Chocolate  n.   a food prepared from ground roasted cacao beans (source: Merriam Webster dictionary)

As a chocolate lover, chocolate has been part of my diet almost every day.  My friends envy me as I don’t seem to gain weight when I eat this confection.  I’m quite fond of milk chocolate, chocolate with mint, chocolate with orange and white chocolate.  I usually veer away from dark chocolate as it taste bitter and strong.

Awfully Chocolate is a cake and ice cream shop from Singapore which opened two years ago in China.  They sell three types of chocolate cake namely: all chocolate, chocolate banana and chocolate rum & cherry.  They also sell Hei (黑), their own premium dark chocolate ice cream.

I remembered tasting my first chocolate cake from this shop and was a bit disappointed because of the strong dark chocolate taste.  I’m not sure which cake was it they ordered but it was a birthday cake for my flatmate.

This year for mid-autumn festival, our company decided to break tradition and offer a chocolate cake shaped like a mooncake.  Each box consists of 4 small cakes and costs RMB 128 each.  The feedback we got from our tenants were positive and they seem to love it.  Must be their sweet tooth!

Anyway, as a treat to the managers, the store sent us a cake to try during one of our meetings.  The cake they sent was so delicious.  I’m planning to buy one for my friend during his birthday this year.  The chocolate was not that sweet but the richness still remains.  The cake itself is not too hard but with the right touch of softness and moist.  In between the layers, they put chocolate cream that’s oozing when you cut and eat it.  Ooohh.. so yummy!

I missed the taste test for the mooncake so I won’t be able to write it down.  Hopefully, we will have a free one for me to taste. :)
