Memoirs of Beijing

June 28, 2009 is not like any ordinary Sunday.  I started the day by going to church.  Lo and behold, a lot of Pinoys were near the front of the auditorium which is a bit weird as they normally stay at the back.  Well,  it seems like they can’t resist the charm of a special guest in the worship service.

I’ve been a fan of Mr. Gary Valenciano ever since he started his music career 25 years ago.  His charisma and voice drew people like moth with a flame.  Being a Christian, endear him to me more as I am one as well.

Anyway, that Sunday, Gary V. was a special guest at Beijing International Christian Fellowship.  He sang two songs, Take Me Out of the Dark and Shout For Joy.  The Pinoys went crazy when he came out.  We weren’t in church anymore but in a concert hall.  I was a little bit put-out but I’m still happy to see him upclose.

That night in celebration of the 34th anniversary of Philippines-China diplomatic relations, the Philippine Embassy in Beijing organized “Rhythms of Love and Friendship”.   Five artists were showcased but the main one is Mr. Gary Valenciano.  Tickets were for free to the delight of the Filipino community in Beijing and neighbouring cities. 

For me, it was a walk back in time, reminiscing my youth and for once enjoying being an OFW in China.  Thanks to all the sponsors, the artists, Philippines Embassy and of course, Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano!
